About Healthy Families for God
My name is Sara and I am 30-something. My handsome husband and I have been blessed by the Lord with five absolutely awesome kids. When our second son was very young, we noticed some behavioral problems with him. He would have episodes of uncontrollable emotional glitches. It was worse than just your average toddler tantrums. There was a blank look in his eyes as though no one was home and then just as quick as it came on, it went off.
Being the pro-active knowledge-seeking woman that I am, I worked hard to get to the source of that change. My research led us to first cut out artificial colors from our diet. With that success, I was intrigued to discover more. (As one expert says, "You can't unlearn what you learn.") As I began to read and learn more, I allowed my heart to be open to what I was reading about the connection between the Standard American Diet and the common health problems in our country.
My starting point was a book I casually picked up at our church library: What the Bible Says About Eating Healthy, by Dr. Rex Russell. From there, I was armed with the knowledge to go against the mainstream diet and feed my children the fuel that their bodies were designed to have. Not only did we start feeling better, but we started seeing more of the beauty and wonder in God's amazing creation.
At the same time, God supernaturally put some new friends into our lives that opened up our eyes even more. They caused me to learn the truth about vaccines, fluoride, pasteurized milk, and more. That friendship and many since then have taught me that the Lord often uses other people to help us gain more wisdom. Sometimes, He will send them just in time to protect us from tragic consequences. We just have to be open to learning new things about the practices of our modern-day society, or God's efforts to prevent that tragedy will have been lost amongst our pride.
Today, I am very passionate about helping other families take off their "American glasses" and see things for the way they really are. And not just with our food supply. Stepping back and working to see things differently than our society has helped our family continue to see more things around us from a heavenly perspective.
I use this research to write articles for magazines and health publications. (See my "professional" website--link on the right side of this blog--for a complete list of my published work.)
I also offer personalized nutrition counseling services to help people make the same changes we did. My research and books I have studied for certification (which I hope to have very soon!) includes using whole, natural foods to heal our bodies from dietary-induced medical problems. God has given us life-giving foods that can even counteract the negative effects of dead foods! I don't sell supplements or products; my focus is on transitioning your lifestyle to those life-giving foods!
Many people ask, "Why Healthy Families for God?! Some natural health advocates seek a healthy lifestyle for reasons focused on themselves. They essentially worship the bodies they were given, rather than the Creator who made them. We were made by God, for God's purposes. HFFG is about helping people get healthy so that they can fulfill that purpose, so we can be healthy FOR GOD!
